ABOUT
Hey Readers!

My name is Gabriel, although those who know me tend to come up with their own variation. "Gabo!" many exclaim, and I like that for some reason. My parents are both from San Juan, Puerto Rico and while I was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida, I am "boricua" at heart. I am an award-winning journalist with accolades in photography and multimedia features and look forward to continuing my journey in story-telling.

I studied English literature and philosophy, completing a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont in 2019. At UVM, I picked up my first film camera and fell in love with the process of creating photos.
In 2022, I completed a master’s degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. At CUNY, I concentrated on arts and culture reporting and specialized in writing and visual journalism. I research, interview sources, record, and write to develop news stories that are relevant to local communities in New York City. I am a bilingual speaker with interests in sports, local politics, photojournalism, and the Latinx community. Among the projects I have worked on, I have written and photographed stories on union-led hunger strikes, NYPD gun policy, public school hearings and have covered local concerns in New York's diverse Boroughs. I care about the cultural influences that define communities and am passionate about using my writing, editing, photography, and ability to connect with people to produce engaging stories.
